Today, we'll be counting down the list of our top 5 "best" white washed characters in movies. Just remember that this list is simply our opinion and may not reflect anyone else's. A few honorable mentions are... - Jake Gyllenhaal (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time) - Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse) - Johnny Depp (The Lone Ranger) 5. EMMA STONE - Aloha (2015) In this movie, Emma Stone plays the role of an Asian-American pilot with a half-Hawaiian/half-Chinese father. It was very controversial sparking lots of backlash. It even got to the point where director, Cameron Crowe had to come out and apologize for the casting. Stone herself even came out and understood all the backlash she. The filmed bombed at the box office, getting panned by both critics and audience. The reason why this made our list is because of Emma Stone. Who doesn't love Emma Stone? 4. Rooney Mara - Pan (2015) Rooney Mara, sister of Kate Mara, was cast in the role of Tiger Lilly. If you know the story of Peter Pan, you would know that she is a Native American princess. Many people were shocked by the casting and of course backlash followed. Honestly, I was shocked to find out that she was Kate Mara's sister. Why she came into our list? Well, she's a pretty great actor. And you can't just skip over somebody great. 3. Elizabeth Taylor - Cleopatra (1963) Do we really need to explain why this is on our list? It's a classic movie so of course we'll put it in here. We can't forget that this was a time when White washing was no big deal in Hollywood. So it shouldn't be a big deal to place at number three in our list. 2. Mickey Rooney - Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) In this praised classic, Rooney portrays Mr. Yunioshi who was suppose to be the comical side of the movie. Many people have found Mr. Rooney's performance either humorous or just down right offensive. We hear at Unreel would say this was a spark and inspired more white comedians to do stereotypical impressions of other ethnicities. We now see it in many Rob Schneider films and many others alike. Guess you could say this made history. 1. Justin Chatwin - DragonBall Evolution (2009)
Did you really think we would leave this off the list? Of course not. This is by far the best white washed casting to ever be put on screen. If you didn't know, Justin Chatwin plays Goku, who mostly identifies as Asian. What makes this great is that they use the white wash trick not as an excuse but for a purpose. Chatwin as Goku symbolizes the kid living in a different land with different people. He's the only white person in the film. Everyone around him including extras are all Asian. Hell, even his grandpa is Asian. It shows him finding himself and telling us it's okay to not be who people see you as. So you could say it's racist but are you sure it's not just a metaphor? Do you agree with this list? Will you report me on Twitter? Let me know in the comments and keep a look out for more Top 5's in the near future.
