With Robert Downey Jr.’s contract ending in 2019 the future of the Iron Man series’ future is a question shrouded in mystery right now. But it seems this may not be the case. In a recent interview Kevin Feige the president of Marvel studios said, “We’ve been eyeing young talent for our new role in the MCU. It isn't an unfamiliar role, it's a character you've seen before, but like you’ve only had glimpses of.” He also said, “With major contracts being ended after this phase, we have had to adapt, and work around them.” All this leads me to believe that they will infact be making a Iron Man prequel. (Minor Civil war spoilers) As you can probably all recall, there was a scene in Civil War where Tony Stark briefly goes back in time to see him at a younger state. So this would make sense to be a Iron man prequel since Feige did say we’ve briefly seen this character. Asa Butterfield was seen sitting with Sarah Finn, the lead Casting Director of the Iron Man trilogy, which allows us to narrow down who they are looking for to play the young Tony Stark.
